Opening Multiple Terminal Sessions Simultaneously

By Tuesday June 23rd, 2015December 14th, 2015Features, Tips & Tricks

Xshell gives you multiple options for starting a terminal session. Here are some examples:

  • On local shell, use ‘ssh username@host’ or ‘telnet username@host’
  • In the Sessions dialog box (Alt-O), select the sessions and click the Connect button
  • Save sessions to the desktop (or local disk) and double click the sessions file

To open multiple sessions simultaneously, you can

  • Right click on one of the folders in the Sessions dialog box (Alt-O) and select ‘Open all sessions in this folder’
  • Select multiple sessions in the Sessions dialog box (Alt-O) by clicking your desired sessions while holding the Ctrl key

Prior to build 0669, you could not open multiple sessions in the Tree view. Many of our Xshell users had requested this feature and we’re happy to announce its release in Xshell 5 build 0669 and Xmanager Enterprise 5 Build 0662. In these builds, you can open multiple sessions in all icon views. Here is an example of how you can do this:

Select multiple sessions in the Tree view of the Sessions dialog box. Below, you can see that I have selected multiple sessions:

From here, you can simply click Connect to simultaneously have Xshell connect to all selected sessions. If you want to open them in a new window, right click on one of the selected sessions and select Open in New Window.

Tree view offers more comprehensive session overview over other view types and now you can control multiple sessions in the Tree view as well.
